Synergi® for Dutch rail safety

ProRail, the infrastructure manager of the Dutch railway network, relies on Synergi® to support their principal task: ensuring capacity, reliability and safety on and around the tracks.
 

Challenge
A previous system from where minimal data was entered, investigations and audits were often not followed up because there was no reminder and it was difficult to extract data as the database contained double information.

Solution
Implementation of the software Synergi®. Most packages are either very good on output or input. Synergy does both.

About Prorail
Maintains and expands the Dutch railway infrastructure now covering more than 6,500 kilometres of tracks all over the Netherlands. Employs around 2,600 people.

Benefits of Synergi®for Prorail

  • All relevant data concerning incidents, audits and inspections on a national basis is registered in Synergi®. This makes ProRail able to keep better track of investigations and the outcome of the improvement actions taken.
  • By providing insight into what the main risks are, Synergi® contributes to the efficiency ProRail needs when daily guiding over one million passengers and 80,000 tons of freight in the right direction.



ProRail implemented Synergi® in January 2005. The transition from their old database to Synergi was performed smoothly and the migration of historical data enabled ProRail to build on data from pervious years.

Though the managers and the board are very well satisfied with the way the system works and how they can all share knowledge, they wish to further develop the company’s use of the software and have therefore bought a Corporate Licence. This means that all ProRail employees will be able to extract information from the system.
