About Subsea 7
Subsea 7 is one of the world's leading subsea engineering and construction companies servicing the oil and gas industry. Its multinational workforce of in excess of 5,000 people supports operations in the North Sea, North America, Brazil, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

For a company to really benefit from implementing Synergi, it is critical to have the buy in from all levels within the company from Vice Presidents, Projects, Vessels and Site personnel. Elaine Rust, Global HSEQ Manager at Subsea 7, advises that it is critical to identify your stakeholders within the company and engage them in the process to ensure ownership.

Subsea 7 had been utilising Synergi for over four years prior to Rust joining the company in 2007. Her plan was to deliver a series of dashboards which would enable users to view data which was relevant to them and provide a view of data across the whole of Subsea 7.

Her first challenge was to target the Management Team, find out what data they required and needed to have easy access to. She found that each level within the organisation was looking for different information.

“Each worksite enters the total number of Tool Box Talks, Task Risk Assessments, New Inductions, Emergency Drills, Safety Meetings etc. carried out during the month, and this information is then displayed on the site or vessel dashboard. Including the vessels and sites in the system development, has enabled the users to feel more involved and several excellent suggestions for future developments have come directly from the sites,” says Rust.

There are a number of substantial benefits which Subsea 7 has realised since the development work started. The dashboards have delivered transparency, from Vice President level down to Worksite level, and vice versa Worksite up to Vice President, the information is visible, trends highlighted and performance monitored by all levels. Another one of the major benefits which was highlighted during the process was the extensive reduction in administrative time.

“A number of departments within Subsea 7 utilised spreadsheets to capture, track and present various types of data. By providing simple user interfaces and the development of automated reports, we vastly reduced the time spent manually entering the data into spreadsheets throughout the organisation. This allowed the company to use the time to actually monitor, analyse and trend the data," concludes Rust.
